John G. Zinn received BA and MBA degrees from Rutgers University. He served as an army officer from
1970 to 1972 and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam. In addition to chairing the 150th
committee, he is the chairman of the board of the New Jersey Historical Society. John is the author of the
The Mutinous Regiment: The Thirty-third New Jersey in the Civil War.

Joseph G. Bilby received his BA and MA degrees in history from Seton Hall University, served as an army
officer in the Vietnam War, and is the author of a number of books on New Jersey and military history, including
Remember You Are Jerseymen with William Goble and Forgotten Warriors: New Jersey’s African American
Soldiers in the Civil War. Retired from the New Jersey Department of Labor as Supervising Investigator, he is a
trustee of the New Jersey Civil War Heritage Association and assistant curator of the National Guard Militia
Museum of New Jersey in Sea Girt

James M. Madden received his BA in Marketing from St. Peter’s College and has contributed articles to
many Civil War publications and projects, including New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial publications
New Jersey Goes to War and New Jersey’s Civil War Odyssey. He is also co-author with Joseph Bilby and
Harry Ziegler on the Hidden History of New Jersey. Jim also serves on the board of directors for the New
Jersey Civil War Heritage Association and a trustee of the Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery, a
member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APGEN) and trustee of the Jerramiah T. Healy
Chartable Foundation for a Better Jersey City.
Events and Commemoration Sub-committee
Thomas R. Burke, Jr. is the Vice President of the New Jersey Civil War Heritage Association. He has been active in the Civil
War reenactment community for many years and is currently a member of the Winfield Scott Hancock
Society, The 69th New York State Volunteer Historical Association, the 6th New York Independent
Battery and the 13th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He has been published in Civil War
Historian magazine, contributed to National Park Service documentary projects and the
NJCW150 historical coordinator for Macculloch Hall’s Gone For a Solider; Jerseymen in the
Civil War.
Education Sub-committee
Dr. David G. Martin received his BA from the University of Michigan and holds MA & PhD
degrees from Princeton University. He is a teacher and administrator at the Peddie School,
president of the New Jersey Civil War Heritage Association and publisher/editor of Longstreet
House book company. Dr. Martin is author and editor of a number of works on the
Civil War; including Gettysburg July 1 and Jackson’s Valley Campaign, and on New
Jersey’s role in the war, including, The Monocacy Regiment (14th New Jersey Volunteer
Infantry)
Lesley-Ann Thomson received her BA degree in American History/Secondary
Education from Ramapo College of New Jersey and is currently finishing her Masters in
American History from Monmouth University. She has been teaching US and New Jersey
History at Barnegat High School for the past four years. She recently received the Patriot’s
Podium Award in Trenton for a lecture on New Jersey’s Role in the American Revolution.

Baltimore Riots occurred with Southern
Sympathizers from that city which four
soldiers and twelve civilians were killed
in the riot. About 36 of the regiment
were also wounded and left behind.
